Vienna Central Station ウィーン中央駅

There is the Central Station since a year and a half?, but it was from Dec. 13th 2015 when all international trains will leave from the station in Vienna.

ウィーンの中央駅はできて1年半ほどになると思うが、ウィーンからの全ての国際列車が中央駅から出発するようになったのはこの12月13日のことだ。

On the next day on Monday, I went to work for the first time from the Central Station.

次の日の月曜日、会社に行くのに始めて中央駅から出発した。



There are some positive aspects. First of all, the Central Station is nearer to the West station. I can reach the station by just one subway station and I can sleep ten minutes longer. Secondly, there were lots of commuters to St.Polten but many of them would not take trains from the Central Station. Many of them would take trains from the West Station due to another train company which is much cheaper than Austrian Railway company. It can be one of the reasons. Any way, the train is now less crowded.

いくつかいいことがある。まず第一に、中央駅は西駅よりも近く、地下鉄で一駅。10分長く寝られる。それから2つ目に、St.Pöltenへ通勤する人たちはあまりこちらの駅を利用しないこと。オーストリア国鉄よりもはるかに安い他の鉄道会社の列車が西駅から発着するのも理由かもしれない。いずれにせよ、あまり混雑しなくなった。

Now the commute to my office is under two hours by door to door. It is better any way and I have to be happy with it.

こうして、家から会社までの時間が2時間を切った。 いいことには間違いないし、喜ばない訳には行かない。

昨日の無料街頭新聞に記事が出ていました。東京から２００kmしか離れていないんだと初めて気がつきました。

Commuting allowance 通勤手当

I posted about this issue almost a year ago. From the human resource department we were asked how much it would cost to travel to office from home. And chairman of the union gathered information which kind of tickets every commuters can buy cheaply. Each commuter would buy the ticket and the government would pay for that.

この件については一年近く前に投稿した。人事課から、家から会社に車での費用を聞かれ、そして組合長もどういうチケットが一番や安く買えるかといった情報を集めていた。これを元に個々人がチケットを買い、国がそれに対して補助を出すというものだった。

However, it turned out that it will be carried out totally different way by the government; there is a commuter's calculator in government homepage, each commuter should use that to settle amount of allowance. The reason why the government would promote this should be that they raise the allowance and want commuters use more public transportation to avoid such problems like exhaust gas or traffic jams.

しかしながら、結果的には全く違った方法で実施されることになった。政府のホームページにある、通勤距離計算器を使って、手当ての額を決めるということになる。もちろん、政府がこれを決めている理由としては、手当てを厚くして多くの人に公共交通機関をより使いやすくさせ、排気ガス、渋滞などの問題の解決の一助にしようというものだろう。


The calculator did not actually work properly. We need to give our home address and of office, then normal working time from and to. And for each, we will have a result if the travel is within pleasant/appropriate range. I have almost never heard that Austrian people would commute the same as I do, it cannot be found pleasant journey any way.

実際にはその計算器まともに計算してくれない。家と会社の住所を入力し、通常の仕事開始、終了時間を入力する。その結果としてそれぞれの旅程が妥当（居心地がいい）ものかという判断と、突き当たりの手当てがはじき出される。僕と同じように通勤しているオーストリア人など聞いたこともないから、居心地がいいと言われるはずがない。

According to the calculator, l  I need three hours to travel to office from home, and return in two hours 20 minutes which is exactly I need. For the way to the office, I would take a train which does not exist.
 
計算器曰く、家から会社には3時間半ほど掛かるのに、帰りは実際に掛かる時間の2時間20分。また会社に行くのに、実際には存在しない時間の電車に乗ることになっている。

Any way, my commuting allowance was 306 Euro per month. Annual ticket of the train and subway costs almost 2065 Euro, so I will get 134 Euro per month for my effort to wake up early in the morning and sleep in the train. That amount was deducted from my tax pay from February's salary.

そういうわけで、月当たりの通勤手当が３０６ユーロになった。鉄道の年間券と地下鉄のチケットを合わせたものが２０６５ユーロくらいになるから、毎月134ユーロを早起きやら電車での睡眠ご苦労様手当てとしてもらうことになった。2月の給料からその額だけ納税額が少なくなっていた。

Rice 米

My uncle mentioned in my previous post sent me 10kg rice. His rice has a very high quality, tastes good even in two years.

前回の記事の叔父が米を１０kg送ってくれた。叔父の作る米は一級品で、古古米になってもおいしく食べられる。

Inside the parcel he wrote thank you. I did not do something special, but he should be happy that his wife would be able to Vienna of her dream.


箱の内側にはいろいろありがとうと書いてあった。別に大したことをした訳じゃないが、叔母が憧れだったウィーンに連れて行ってあげられたのが嬉しかったんだろう。

Christmas time クリスマス

After the sommer, open cafe will be closed and then Christmas market is the only event for Austrian people.

夏が過ぎて、オープンカフェが閉まる時期になると、オーストリア人にとってはクリスマスマーケットだけが唯一の楽しみになる。

The Christmas market at Stephan's Cathedral is new, just started last year. I just tried to find glühmost there. Most of drinks served at Christmas market are too sweet for me.

シュテファン寺院のクリスマスマーケットは新しい。去年から始まったんだと思う。グリューモストを探してみる。クリスマスマーケットの飲み物はどれも甘すぎる。

I found something odd in my neighborhood.
A crane lifted something and some people were there.

近所で何か怪しげなものを見つけた。クレーンが何かを持ち上げていて、そこに人がいた。

Dinner in the sky.... this might be great chance to see the city in light from the sky.

Flood of the century １００年に一度の大洪水

Continuous rain from last Friday, topic is always about flood and whole Austria. Of course, not only in Austria but also in Czec or Hungary. Every day, newspaper brings damage report of Austrian cities along the river. The current situation written in newspaper seems to be worse than the one in 2002. The situation in Salzburg is slowly calming down, then the affected area just comes down to cities downstream along the river.

先週の金曜日から降り続いていた雨で、オーストリアでは洪水の話で持ちきりだ。もちろんオーストリアだけではない。チェコでもハンガリーでも同じように洪水の被害が日々報告されている。新聞は毎日オーストリアの各都市の被害状況を伝えている。２００２年の大洪水の被害よりも今回の洪水は被害が大きいようだ。ザルツブルグでは状況が収束しつつあるようだが、被害が下流の都市に移動しつつある。

Vienna was suffering from flood since long long time, they built Danube channel to avoid it. Until now there is no trouble within the city except for bars or restaurants along channel and the cancellation of Danube island grill party. The situation in Prague or in Budapest seems very bad now.


ウィーンは昔から洪水に悩まされてきたため、その昔ドナウ川の運河を建設した。これまでのところ市内においては運が沿いの飲食店やバーなどを除いて大きな被害はでていない。ただ週末に予定されていた、ドナウインゼルでのグリルパーティーが中止となった。お隣チェコのプラハやハンガリーのブダペストの状況はなかなか深刻な様子。

I also got involved into troubles due to this flood on Monday; the Inter City did not run through between Amstetten and St.Valentin, the rail was under the water and there was bus replacement for this part.


自身もこの月曜日被害にあった。アムシュテッテン、サンクトヴァレンティン間は線路が水没したためにインターシティーが不通になり、バスが電車の肩代わりをした。

Then again on Wednesday after work, I am but not sure if it really was for the flood, the train toward Vienna were not operated.

A very kind Polish guy, whom I see every day for last three years in the train from Vienna to St.Valentin where I would change my train, saw me on the platform in St.Valentin station and asked me if I would like to go back to Vienna in his company car.  We have never spoken each other before.

そして水曜日の仕事後、この洪水の影響かどうかはさだかではないが、ウィーン行きの列車がまったく動いていなかった。とても親切なポーランド人の男性、ウィーンから乗り換えのために降りるサンクトヴァレンティンまでの電車で、この三年間毎日見かける顔だったが、彼が会社の車でウィーンまで一緒に帰らないかと話かけてくれた。彼とはこれまでに一度も話をしたことがなかった。

We introduced each other and talked about our job, job market in Poland and economic trend in EU countries.

帰りの車の中でお互いに自己紹介をし、仕事の話、ポーランドの求職状況、EU内の経済動向などについて話をする。

Onigiri made in Vienna ウィーンのおにぎり

At one of the Austrian chain supermarkets in my neighborhood in ring street gallery, I happened to find onigiri at a snack corner. I took a close look on that, an Austrian company in Vienna makes that. Usually, it is available only at some Asian shops.

家の近くの、リング通りギャラリーにある、オーストリアのスーパーのチェーン店のスナックコーナーでおにぎりを見つけた。よく見てみるとウィーンにある会社が作っている模様。普通はアジアショップでしか買えない。

But isn't it too much for 2.99 Euro? Well, rice is not that cheap here. In Japan it should cost around 150 yen, so in half price.

でも２.９９ユーロはちょっと高いんじゃないの？ まぁ米が高いからしょうがないか。

Fire festival rice cracker 火祭り煎餅

I received a parcel from Japan.

日本から小包が届いた。

The sender of the parcel was Mr.Y whom I got to know during my volunteer in  Ohtsuchi-cho in Iwate.

小包の送り主は、大槌町の赤浜で一緒にボランティアをしたYさんだった。

In Aomori where he lives is cold. Snow has just melted before Golden Week Holiday and it will be the best to see cherry blossoms.

青森は寒く、ゴールデンウィーク前にようやく雪が解けたとのことで、ちょうど桜が見頃らしい。

He is eager to go back to Tono, where the volunteer work is arranged, it will be his 10th visit there.

遠野へ行ってまたお手伝いをしたいとのことで、次で10回目になるそう。

He cares if I have found somebody, it was the first time since years to read such the heartwarming letter. It reminded me of his slow talking with typical Tohoku accent.

誰かいい人は見つかりましたかとも書いてあった。久しぶりに心温まる手紙を読んだ。Yさんのゆっとりとした東北訛りの声を思い出した。

Winter again? また冬？

The weather this year is changing all the time; In the middle of February, we had record snow in Vienna. Then it got warmer to hit 16 degrees and after that snow. On the day, when I tried to back home around 18 o'clock, the rotating gate did not work and I had to go out by ladder.

今年の天候は不順だ。2月中旬はウィーン市内では記録的な雪。その後暖かくなって気温が16度にまで上がるようになったその後、また寒の戻りで雪。その日の夕方6時頃、会社の出口の回転式ドアが動かなくなり、梯子で外で出るハメに。
 

According to the government, the expense for clearing snow was the record hit. Last week, Austrian team was sent to help cars on highway which were stuck in the snow in Hungary.


政府の発表によると、今年の除雪費用は過去最高だったらしい。つい先週はハンガリーでも大雪が降って、高速道路に立ち往生している車の救援にオーストリアから部隊が出動したらしい。

It got warmer at the beginning of this week, but weekend again to minus temperature. We expected to train baseball in practical combination play, but it will be too cold to do that. So just warming up.

今週の初めから少し暖かくなったと思ったら、週末はまたマイナス気温に逆戻りで、予定していた野球の練習も体を動かすだけのものに。

When it was very warm in Austria, it was much colder in Japan. Now they are enjoying cherry blossoms while we have to take a thick coat back to life.

オーストリアが暖かかった時には、日本ではもっと寒く、今こちらで分厚いコートをまた引っ張り出してきているときに、日本ではもう花見を楽しんでいる。

At Christmas market nearby 近所のクリスマスマーケットにて

After cooking noodle at home and ate with friends, I went to Karlsplatz with one of them. From this year, they have original Karlsplatz mug for the Punsch or Glühwein. It seems that the place is one of the most popular Christmas markets in Vienna and therefore lots of tourists would visit. Especially interesting for those who has children, they can ride on ponnies in front of the church.

家でうどんを作って友達と食べた後、カールスプラッツへ。今年からはプンシュやグリューワインのマグにカールスプラッツのデザインが入っている。ここはウィーンでも人気のあるクリスマスマーケットのひとつのようで、たくさんの旅行者がやってくる。特に子供連れには、教会の正面でポニーに乗れるのが人気の理由のようだ。

This picture was taken by my cellular phone. Actually the light contrast of the foreground and background is quite big, with a usual camera it is not possible to take such a shot without let it go through SDR post process software by taking two or three different pictures with different exposure value.
The development of the cellular phone (actually it is far more than a phone) is already beyound our expectation nowadays.

この写真は携帯で撮ったもの。前景と背景のコントラストがとても大きく、普通のカメラでは撮れない。露出を変えて数枚全く同じ写真を撮って、後でSDR処理をするしか方法がない。最近の携帯の進化は（むしろ携帯電話と呼ぶことが憚れるが）われわれの予想を遥かに超えている。

I have a bank acount at Bank Austria, one of the biggest banks in Austria and they changed their internet banking system a few weeks ago over a weekend. They seemed to have a lots of problem and some internet services did not work properly even after the weekend, they continued to work to solve them.
I, as an individual customer, did not have any particular problem, but I read that many transactions delayed and it caused huge loss for some companies. Then I got an email from the bank for a coupon with amount of 30 Euro! And I can select shops where I can use this for.

銀行口座を、オーストリアでも一番大きな銀行の一つでもあるバンクオーストリアに開いて持ってる。数週間前の週末に、インターネットバンキングシステムの更新ということで工事をしていたようだが、月曜になっても一部のシステムは動作せず、その問題解決のために引き続き作業をしていたようだった。
個人顧客として、その週末にはオンラインバンキング、銀行からの引き出し以外で特に大した問題があったわけではなかったが、オンライン決済が遅れたなど、一部企業では大きな損出を被ったらしい。そんなわけで、銀行から３０ユーロの商品券が送られてきた！どの店で使いたい選べるようになっている。

St. Martin's Day 聖マルティンの日

Actually it was a week ago, on November 11.

実際には一週間前の１１月１１日。

In Austria, this day is to eat goose. This is called Martinsgans (Martin's goose). This comes from the anecdote: St.Martin from Hungary hid himself in a stable filled with geese trying to avoid being selected to the bishop of Tours in France, but the geese started to be noisy and was found. So the history started to eat geese on the day. Usually roast geese will be served with potato dumplings and violet cabbage. Many restaurants will offer geese around this season of the year.

オーストリアではこの日はガチョウを食べる。マルティンガンスと呼ばれている。この逸話は、ハンガリー出身の彼が、フランスのトゥールという町の司祭に選ばれようとしていたのを、自身で何とか拒もうとガチョウ小屋に身を隠していたところ、騒いだガチョウのせいで見つかってしまったために、それ以来ガチョウを食べるようになったというもの。通常はローストしたガチョウにジャガイモのダンプリング、紫キャベツが添えられる。たくさんのレストランでこの時期メニューに載っている。

Even a Saint can blame others for his own selfishness. It seems that most of geese will be imported from Hungary. I am not sure it is because of the anecdote.

聖人ですら自分の身勝手を人のせいにする。いわんや衆人をや！！ガチョウの大半はハンガリーから輸入されているらしいが、この逸話と関係があるのかは不明。

Listening to Gipsy Jazz ジプシージャズを聴きながら

I worked from home and I did not eat until I let me call the day. I went out to eat something and had noodle at nearby Chinese restaurant. I did not have money left and then went to a bank. Then I heard Spanish guitar playing somewhere around. It was from the bistro on the other side of the street. At the entrance, I saw Gipsy Jazz live. Actually they were standard Jazz or Flamenco guitar I thought, but I thought of sitting there for some glasses of beer.

在宅勤務の日、遅くまで働いて何も食べてなかった。何か食べようと外に出て、近所の中華でラーメンを食べ、お金がほとんどなくなったので銀行へ。 どこからかスペインギターの音が聞こえてきた。通りの反対側のビストロからだった。入り口にはジプシージャズライブとある。実際スタンダードジャズにフラメンコギターの演奏だったろうにと思いながら、ビールを飲みながらギターを聴くことにする。

Due to its location, there were many tourists. I took a table outside, it was not warm but still ok. The two guitarists played for some time, and then they took the rest. I had to wait for the next performance, I just enjoy my beer and replied some emails. A tourist group next to my table spoke and laugh loud even during the play, when a bar clerk came up to me and asked if I would like to have another glass, I told her that I would take the table in the front.

場所柄、観光客が多い。外のテーブルに座る。暖かくはないがまだ何とかOKだ。ギタリストが２人でしばらく演奏した後で休憩に入る。次の演奏までまた待たなくてはいけない。ビールを飲みながらメールの返信をする。隣のテーブルの観光客が演奏中も大きな声で話しながら、馬鹿笑いをしていた。店の女の子がこちらに来て、もう一杯いかがと聞くので、前のほうに座るからと言って席を移る。

The guitarists started to play again after half an hour. Some customers stayed just next to the guitarists but they did not react to the music. I heard they were speaking Russian. Actually nobody clapped hands after each song. The guitarists played some standard jazz like Autumn Leaves or Beautiful Love, then the one quite familiar to me, I was not able to remember the name of the song but I thought I heard that at the Pace de Lucia concert a year or two ago. It was great and when they finished playing, I clapped my hands. Then all other guests followed me.

３０分ほどしてまた演奏が始まった。ギタリストのすぐ脇に居るお客さんたちは音楽には何の反応もしない。ロシア語を話しているのが聞こえる。実際それまで誰も一曲終わった後に拍手もしていなかった。枯葉やビューティフルラブなどのスタンダートな曲が続いた後、１、２年前に名前は思い出せないが、確かパコ・デ・ルチアのコンサートで聞いた曲が始まった。素晴らしい演奏で思わず拍手すると、他のお客さんたちも続いて拍手。

Summer is going to be over and we rarely sit outside, from October shops have to close their table outside. It was a very comfortable night.

夏はもう終わりで、外に座ることも稀になってくる。１０月からは通りの外に出ているテーブルは片付けなきゃいけないことになっているからだ。なんとも居心地のいい晩だった。

Kino unter Stern (Movie theater under stars) 屋外映画館

It was been very hot for a week. During the week is ok. I would come back late after work; it is too hot to stay at home when the sun shines. Last Saturday the temperature went up to 37 or 38 degrees. At noon time, I went out to cafe nearby. The old stone buildings have thick stone walls. Even the heat will not come in nor cellular phone waves.
Even in the building like that but on the roof floor, like where I live in, the heat will penetrate the roof and the room is like sauna. This might be the perfect day to sit outside and enjoy beer, then stay outside until the sun disappears. Or further stay outside to enjoy open air movie in my neighborhood which has just started on the day. Surely I have to come and enjoy the hot summer night there. Here I can enjoy both beer and the movies at the same time.

一週間とても暑かった。週の中日は仕事から帰ってきて遅くなるからいいが、日が差している間は暑くて居られない。先週の土曜日には気温が37から38度になった。昼間には近所のカフェに出かける。古い石造りの建物は中がとても涼しくて熱を通さない。携帯の電波も通さないくらいだ。

そういう建物に住んでいても、僕が住んでいるような最上階だと、熱が屋根を通して入ってくる。サウナのよう。こんな日こそ外で涼んで、日が沈むまでビールを飲むのが最高だ。もしくは、この日に始まったばかりの近所の屋外映画を楽しむか。間違いなく夏の間はちょくちょくお世話になりそうである。ここでは映画とビールの両方を楽しめる。

EURO 2012

Now, everything goes with EURO 2012 here for more than a week. I am not a great fan of a certain team, but happy to watch a nice game. This weekend, I did not have a baseball game and spend quite quietly. One of my friends who moved to Luxemburg about a year ago just stopped by in Vienna on her way back to Poland, we met up at a cafe bar on the "beach" of Vienna to watch the game Spain and France.

ここのところ一週間以上、全てがEURO 2012を中心に回っている。特にどこのチームの応援をしているわけではないが、いい試合を見たい。今週末は野球の試合もなく、静かな週末だった。去年ルクセンブルグに越していった友人が、ポーランドに帰るついでにウィーンに寄るというので、ウィーンの「ビーチ」にあるカフェバーでスペインとフランスの試合を観戦する。

The next day, after coming back from a concert to support Himalayan children which my baseball team mate invited me, I went to the irish pub in my neighborhood to watch the game between Italy and England. This should be one of the best games during this EM. (European Championship) Being in an irish pub, I was not able to cheer for Italian apparently. I got to know people around me quickly and talked about the game all the time. They are from Germany and on the England side.

翌日、野球のチームメイトに招待された、ヒマラヤの子供達のためのコンサートから帰ってきて、近所のアイリッシュパブにイギリス対イタリアの試合を観戦に行く。たぶん、このヨーロッパ選手権始まって以来の好ゲームだったと思う。もちろんアイリッシュパブに居ながらあからさまにイタリアの応援をするのは憚れたが、とにかくいい試合だった。周りの人とすぐに話が弾んで、ゲーム中も話をする。彼らはドイツから来ていて、イギリスの応援をしていた。

Volunteer Work ボランティア

Today I met a team mate of my baseball club to hand over his public recognition of his play in 2011. His wife is from Iwate where by Tsunami affected a year ago, we just talked about that and almost nothing about baseball. He asked me about my activity in Japan in last November, he told me that he might do something when he would be in her wife's home town in that area. The more people would be aware of it that anybody can do a small thing for the area, the earlier the full recovery of the region would be finished.

今日は野球チームのチームメイトの一人に、２０１１度の表彰を手渡すために待ち合わせをする。彼の奥さんは東北の人で、話は野球には全く及ばずボランティアの話で持ちきりだった。去年の１１月にした東北でのボランティアについて聞かれた。彼は、夏に奥さんの実家に帰るときにボランティアをしてみようかと言っていた。少しでも多くの人がそういう気持ちになってくれれば、復興も一日でも早くなる。

There are lots of people wishing fast recovery in Japan but it is still on the way, although media showed us some pictures that showed us a slight progress. Actually there are lots more volunteer workers needed indeed. However in reality the number of volunteer workers decreases steadily.

日本の少しでも早い復興を願っている人はたくさんいる。メディアは日本の復興を伝えるためにいろんな写真を見せてくれて入るが、実際にはまだ途上に過ぎない。 実際にはこれまでよりも多くのボランティアが必要なのだ。しかしながら、人数は減る一方である。

Krapfen クラップフェン

Yesterday the boss of our devision bought us Krapfen for each for about 100 employees.

昨日部のボスがみんなにクラップフェンを振舞ってくれた。およそ１００人分くらいか？

Krapfen is something like a donuts without hole and filled with jam or cream, or sometimes with chocolate, which is quite common in Southern Germany or in Austria. Its proper name is Faschingskrapfen. Fasching is carnival. But this Krapfen is usually available in any time of the year. There are lots of snacks in Europe which seem quite similar.

クラップフェンは穴のないドーナッツのようなもので、なかにはジャムやクリーム、たまにチョコレートが入っているものがある。南ドイツやオーストリアで一般的なもの。正式名称はファーシングスクラップフェン。ファーシングというのはカーニバルのことだ。でもこのクラップフェン一年を通して手に入れることが出来る。ヨーロッパには各地にこれと似たものがあるようだ。

Origin of the Austrian Krapfen, we can follow the document and go back to 1815 and was named after Cäcile Krapf, a female cook working for the Emperor. She made the fried bread ball filled with cooked fruits for the dance partz guests at the Vienna Congress. It was so delicious and became famous then.

オーストリアクラップフェンの起源は、1815年まで遡る。皇帝に仕えていた料理人のセシル・クラップフという人の名前からきているものだ。王宮で執り行われていたウィーン会議でのバル（ダンスパーティー）のゲストのために、調理した果物を詰めた揚げパンを作り、その評判で一気に有名になった。という話である。

It has been very very cold in Vienna since last week, temperature seldom goes up to plus, but sun shines.
There has been for more than three weeks and I was always curious about it. Colorful temprary toilets are standing in front of Charles church. I thought it first that it is now too cold to use it at least.

先週辺りからウィーンはとても寒い。気温もなかなかプラスにならないが、その代わり陽が射している。3週間くらいになろうか、ずっと気になっていた。カールス教会前にカラフルな仮設トイレが並んでいる。最初は、今使うのにはちょっと寒過ぎるんじゃと思ったが。。。
