The Day of Liberation ヨーロッパが解放された日

"May 8th is a very important day in Europe. It is the memorial day that they won the war against Totalitarianism and were free from that 69 years ago.... "

「5月8日はヨーロッパにとって大切な日だ。69年前に全体主義との戦いに勝利して自由を勝ち取った記念の日。....」

That was the speech by the Federal Chancellor of Austria, Werner Faymann on the stage.

これがオーストリア連邦首相、ヴェルナー・ファイマンのステージでの演説。

In front of Hofburg king's palace, a dome stage was built and lots of people were there to celebrate/enjoy the festival. For the festival, the Vienna Symphony Orchestra was ready to play Beethoven's Symphony No.5. Needless to say, this concert was free.

王宮前の広場にドーム型のステージが設営され、この日を祝うためか、お祭りを楽しむためか、たくさんの人が集まった。ウィーン交響楽団が、ベートーヴェンの運命を演奏するためにステージに陣取る。もちろんこのコンサートは無料。

I bought a piece of pretzel and beer, was standing among people and linstened to speeches of vice mayer Maria Vassilakou, the representative of concentration camp in Mauthausen, federal chancellor Werner Faymann and so on.

ブレーツェルとビールを買って、人混みの中に立ちながら、ウィーン副市長のマリア・ヴァシラコウ、マウトハウゼンの強制収用所所長、それから連邦首相のヴェルナー・ファイマンなどの、この日を祝うスピーチを聞く。

Having listened so many times that they said "free from Totalitarism" and they won the democracy, I just wondered. After the war, Germany pushed all the guilt to Nazi, although Hitler was elected by German ciitzens in democratical way. Hitler came to Austria in 1938, but he was somehow welcomed. This is the historical fact. I have seen pictures that lot of people gathered at square of cities with the Nazi flag in their hand to listen to Hitler's speech. But Austria tried to wipe this history by declaration of Permanent Neutrality. Even now, some strees in Vienna have been originally named after famous people and it will be renamed when their contributed to Nazi party was discovered.

演説で何度も「全体主義からの解放」とか民主主義を勝ち取ったとか聞いていたら不思議に思えてきた。戦後ドイツはすべての責任をナチスに押し付けたが、彼は民主的にドイツ国民に選挙でえらばれて当選した。ヒトラーは1938年にオーストリアに来て併合したが、いくらか歓迎されていた。これは歴史の事実だ。ヒトラーの演説を聞くために、町の中央広場にナチの旗を手にして集まった民衆の写真も見たことがある。でもオーストリアは永世中立を謳い、この歴史を覆い隠そうとした。今でも、もともと有名人に因んで名づけられた通りの名前が、彼らのナチス党への関与が発覚する度に変更されている。

When I talk with European, they would take Japan as a member of the Axis with Germany and Italy. Most of people do not know what happened in Asia then and believe without doubt that Japan should have done something similar in Asia what Germany or Italy did. They do not know that Japanese government was against Nazi policy about racial discrimination and helped Judes  into Manchuria who had been escaping from Nazi's persecution in Europe ignoring Nazi's accusation not to give them over.

We have to know in advance what happened and how they European would think to communicate with them properly. Until now I told some Europeans that Japan was against Nazi policy. After the War, Hitler killed himself and Mussolini was executed. Showa Tenno traveled all through Japan to encourage citizens. This tells the difference of the relationship clearly; relationship between Tonno and Japanese citizens, and Ruler and European citizens.

ヨーロッパ人と話をすれば、彼らの頭の中には日本はドイツとイタリアの仲間。当時アジアで日本が何をしていたのかは知らないが、きっとドイツやイタリアと同じようなことをしたんだろうと考えているのが分かる。当時日本がナチスの人種差別に反対しており、満州に避難してきたユダヤ人をドイツに避難を受けながらも人道的な立場から匿ったこと。ユダヤ人はそれをちゃんと知っていたから、昭和天皇の葬儀はイスラエルから出席があったことなど、知っている人はほとんどいない。

何が起こったのかを事前に知っておき、ヨーロッパの人間がどう考えるかを知らないと会話は噛み合わない。そうやって日本はナチスの政策には反対だったんだという話をこれまでに何度もした。戦後ヒトラーは自殺をし、ムッソリーニは処刑された。昭和天皇は日本中を回って国民を励ました。天皇と日本国民の関係が如何にヨーロッパの支配者と民衆の関係と違うのかを如実に物語っている。

Then the concert had started. Many people were standing near the stage, and more people were sitting on the lawn in the park very relaxed. It was a very cosy night.

そしてコンサートが始まった。たくさんの人はステージの近くて立って聞いているが、もっと大勢の人たちは芝生の上に座って寛いでいる。とても気持ちのいい夜だった。

Keio Wagner Society Orchestra 慶應義塾ワグネル・ソサィティオーケストラ

A friend of mine, who works for UNO gave me tickets for a concert by a Japanese orchestra. One of the oldest Japanese amateur orchestra came to play in Musikverein, and this was one of their performances in Europe beside Munich, Prague and Budapest.

国連で働いている友人の一人が、日本のオーケストラのコンサート券をくれた。日本でも一番古い、アマチュアオーケストラなのだそうな。そのバンドがヨーロッパコンサートツアー（ミュンヘン、プラハ、ブダペスト）、でウィーンの楽友協会で演奏してくれた。

Very many Japanese were there, some can be all the way from Japan.

たくさん日本人が来ていた。 日本から来ていた人たちもいただろう。

Japanese look much younger than European in general, a man sat behind me talked to his friends by him if band members might be around 16 and great performance for their age.

一般に日本人は西欧人よりも若く見えるためか、後ろに座っていた男性は隣の人たちと、バンドのメンバーは16歳くらいなんじゃないかと話をしていた。若いのに大したもんだって。

Audience did not move when the last one finished. The conductor repeated coming out and in, waving to audiences while hand clapping continued. It was a great performance.

最後の曲が終わった後、観客からの拍手が続いている間、指揮者は何度も何度も舞台から出たり入ったりして、観客の拍手に応えていた。素晴らしい演奏でした。

Absorbed in music 音楽三昧

I happened to get to know an Austrian Jazz pianist at nearby restaurant to which I would bring my natto from time to time. I just asked who plays the CD, and they told me about his concert.

ひょんなことからオーストリア人のジャズピアニストについて知る。作った納豆をたびたび持っていく近所のレストランでのこと。誰のCDかと聞くと、彼のコンサートについて教えてくれた。

The cafe in 18th district is not open on weekends usually, but will be open when they have any concert.
Table and chairs, inside decoration look like unchanged since 50 years. The place was like a private space, non-smoking, I felt it very comfortable.

１８区にあるこのカフェはいつもは週末閉まっているが、コンサートのある日には開いている。机も椅子も内装も、５０年来変わっていないという感じ。タバコの煙もない、身近な人たちだけが集まった空間。とても落ち着く。

A female singer was there, too. She had a very clear voice which reminded me of Sheena Easton. All songs were arranged somehow jazzy, from German songs to Sting or Eurythmics. The man's voice was like Elton John, his piano was somewhat like the play of Bruce Hornsby.It was wonderful.

女性の歌手も出演。彼女の透き通った声はシーナ・イーストンを思わせた。楽曲全てジャズ風にアレンジされており、それがドイツの歌から、スティング、ユーリズミックスに至るまで。男性の声はエルトン・ジョンのようで、ピアノの演奏はどこかブルース・ホーンズビーのよう。素晴らしいステージだった。

After two stages, I put my donation for the stage, then I talked to him to say words of thank you and how I was there to listen to his concert. I left the café and then went to another live stage of a rock band in which one of my friends sings. Rock'n Roll until 24:00.

２ステージの後、有志の募金をし、彼のところに行ってお礼と、どうやってここに着たのか伝えて会場を去る。その後は友人がボーカルをやっているロックバンドのライブへ。真夜中までロック三昧。

It was Austrian holiday, the day of declaration of Neutrality in 1955, and there were lots of events held in Vienna. But for me it was a day of music this year.

その日はオーストリアの祭日。１９５５年に永世中立を宣言した日。ウィーン市内ではいろんなイベントが開かれていたが、今年は音楽三昧の日だった。

Pop festival 2012 ポップフェスティバル2012

After the open air movie theator, they still had something to follow. Local pop bands gathered together, so to say Indy bands at Karlsplatz.

Temporal stage has been built in the pond in front of the Charles Church, beer stands (very important) and other shops to offer crepes, pizza or curry.

野外映画館に続き、地元のポップバンドが集うイベントがカールツプラッツで開催されている。カールス教会正面の池の上に仮設のステージが建てられ、ビールスタンド（重要）にクレープ、ピザ、カレーなどを出す店もある。

Vienna Philharmonic Summer Concert ウィーンフィル サマーコンサート

I have lived in Austria since 2002, but I had never chance to go to Schönbrunn for the free open air concert performed by Vienna Philharmonic every year. After I had moved to Vienna I lost the chance twice. But finally I was there to enjoy their performance with lots of audiences.

2002年からオーストリアに住んでいるが、ウィーンフィルが毎年シューンブルン宮殿で無料で演奏する野外コンサートに行く機会はなかった。ウィーンに引っ越してきてからも2回行く機会を失したが、今回やっと、他のたくさんの聴衆と一緒に演奏を堪能した。

 

 

 

Al di Meola concert アル ディ メオラ コンサート

On July 1 there was a BIG concert at state Opera during the period of Vienna Jazz Festival. Al di Meola. I asked one of my friends to go with me. First she hesitated to pay much for an unknown musician, but she seemed to enjoy really very much.

ウィーンで開かれているジャズフェスティバルの期間中の7月1日に、オペラ座で大事なコンサートがあった。アル ディ メオラ。友達の一人を誘ったが、最初は知らないミュージシャンのコンサートにたくさんお金を出すのを渋っていたが、コンサートを十分堪能した様子。

We were at the secpmd row of the back part of the first floor, it was very good. His play was amazing. I kept goose pimples throughout the concert.

一階席の後ろのブロックの2番目の列に座っていた。とても見やすいところだった。彼のプレイはすごかった。コンサート中鳥肌が立っていた。

Classic guitar festival クラシックギターフェスティバル

My Hungarian teacher asked me if I want to go to the guitar concert held at the conservatorium and I would never hesitate to say yes to such the offer. Her boyfriend is studying classic guitar at the conservatorium. The festival is actually a competition and there are some concerts by invited guests.

ハンガリー語の先生に音楽学校で開かれるギターコンサートに行かないかと聞かれ、そういう誘いには2つ返事で同意する。彼女のボーイフレンドが音楽学校でギターを専攻している。そのフェスティバルは実際にはコンペなのだが、招待ゲストのコンサートも開かれる。

After my private Hungarian lesson, we went to the conservatorium near the Naschmarkt. I have passed the building many times to buy something in Naschmarkt but have never been there actually. While waiting outside of the building, I saw some Japanese students talking. I do now know the detail but there are lots of Japanese students living in Vienaa majoring music. In my baseball team there are also some students; they are studying trumpet, violin, opera and so on.

個人レッスンの後、ナッシュマルクトの近くにある音楽学校へ行く。ナッシュマルクトへ買い物に行くときに何度も建物の前を通り過ぎたことはあるが、中に入るのはこれが初めてだ。外で待っているときに日本人学生が話しているのを見た。細かいことまでは知らないが、ウィーンに住んで音楽を専攻している学生はたくさん居る。野球のチームにもトランペット、バイオリン、声楽を勉強している学生さんたちが居る。

The player of the day was Carlo Marchione from Italy. The concert started from 19:30, he mixed some contemporal music in classical ones, fascinated us for more than two hours including pause. It was amazing. He appeared four times due to our encore after he had finished his program of the day. I was very happy to be there.

その日のギタリストはイタリアのCarlo Marchioneさん。コンサートは19:30に始まり、クラッシック音楽に最近のものを交え、休憩を挟みながら2時間以上に渡ってすばらしい演奏を披露してくれた。予定終了後も観客のアンコールに4度も応えてくれた。行ってよかった。

In the concert hall I happened to find a familiar face; a badminton club member. I heard that he works as a tour guide in Vienna, but he told me that he finished his study at the Kunitachi musical university and studied at the conservatorium, then teaches playing guitar in Vienna. I remembered that I happened to see him last time at a guitar concert held at the Japanese embassy two months ago, so it was not a coincidence.

コンサートホールで、偶然バドミントンクラブの人を見かけた。人からは観光ガイドをされていると聞いていたが、国立音大を卒業してこの学校でギターを専攻し、そしてウィーンで教えていらっしゃるとのこと。２ヶ月前の、日本大使館で開かれたクラシックギターのコンサートのときにも偶然お会いしたことを思い出したが、実際には偶然じゃなかった。

Goran Gregovic concert ゴラン・グレゴヴィッチのコンサートに行く

One of my friends asked me the other day if I would like to join the concert of Goran Gregovic, for his 60th birthday. I once heard of him before and maybe saw his clip, but I did not have any chance to see him until now. She was at the festival in Szeged, Hungary last summer and saw his concert there.

友人の一人が先日ゴラン・グレゴヴィッチの60歳を祝うコンサートに一緒に行かないかと聞いてきた。彼の名前は以前聞いたことがあるし、ビデオクリップも見たような記憶がある。でも実際にコンサートへ行くのは今回が初めてだ。彼女は去年の夏ハンガリーのセゲドで開かれたフェスティバルで彼のコンサートを見たらしい。

The concert hall was Theater an der Wien, it is actually an opera house. The hall was fully packed, our sheets were on the second floor. He appeared in full white and his blue guitar seemed very cool. They sang songs too but in Slavic language which I have never learned, but from time to time I caught some familiar words similar to Russian. There might have been many audiences from Yugoslavia.

コンサートの会場はテアター・アン・デァ・ヴィーン、実際にはオペラの劇場。ホールは満員で我々は2階席に陣取った。彼は白尽くめの衣装で登場し、彼の青いギターが妙にかっこよく見えた。彼らは歌も歌ったがまだ勉強したことのないスラブ語で何ていっているのかよく分からない。でもたまにロシア語に似た言葉が耳に飛び込んできた。ユーゴスラビア出身の観客もたくさん居たようだ。

It was a great concert, he is a real entertainer. He seemed to enjoy himself with audiences. Vocals were wonderful, from silent music to groovy one, we enjoyed everything at once. One song still refrains in my head, na-na nanananana-......

素晴らしいコンサートだった。彼こそ本当のエンターテイナーと呼ぶにふさわしい。観客と一緒になって自分が楽しんでいたように見えた。ボーカルはとても素晴らしく、静かな音楽からのりのいいものまで一度に楽しめた。未だにある曲が頭から離れない。ナーナ、ナナナナナー。。。。
