BBQ season also started

It is still bit cold early in the morning or late, sun started come up more often. My friend called for BBQ, the first ime of this year.  The weather forcast was rain, but it was very fine. We were happy to be in a grill place in 16th district.

Suddenly, it started to rain very strongly and with hail!! It continued for about 15 minutes.

Some people went home because of the rain. After it stopped raining, I cooked just a small portion of sukiyaki and I took ingredients back home.

Season has started

Two of our games had been postponed due to the bad weather. Last year, it snowed until very late and we were not able to train even in April. This year it got warm and we were able to train before the season started, but it rained and trained for a several weeks but only on weekends.

Finally the first game was held in Schrems, in a small city on the border between Czech. It took us almost two hours by car from Vienna. The weather was fine and we could have thought that we went out for a daily trip when we saw vacant but vast landscape with horizon.

Today we have only 9 players without any replacement. I was told by manager to keep hot base, third base, because we do not have many infielders. This is my second time.

We lost in the first eving 3 runs, including home run, but our pitcher was not able to train before the game started. We believed that he will be better later and try to get runs by aiming next base all the time using our feet.

Pichters of opponent team did not have good controlled pitch. We chose 18 four balls! and hit 15 hits until the end of 5th ining. We stopped stealing base or proceeding by wild pitches after we got 10 runs lead. It turned out to be a cold game at 5th ining.

Today, I selected two four balls and one bant hit, two steals. The beer after the game was great. Yes, Schrems has a very nice beer.

Craft beer fest

Baseball game planned to umpire was canceled by the bad weather, I went out to the craft beer fest on the Danube channel. It was so cold that day, but there were lots of people there.

There were 15 tents and at each tent we can enjoy beer from different micro brewery. Going down on the bank, I slightly got worried if somebody could fall into the channel after drinking a lot.

At first, visitors were asked to buy this beer glass of this event and some plastic coins for 10 Euros. At each tent we would pay for beer by this coin. We can only be served beer in this glass.

I did not have any problem from which tent to start; just from right to left for each.

Drinking beer in the tent, a man with a mant came in. It was the Conrad Seidl, aka Beerpope, a very famous beer commentater in Austria and he maintain the Internet site "Beer Guide". Once I asked him for shaking hands at a beer pub 1516 in my neighborhood. He ranks beer pubs and publishes certification like Michellin Guide, gives number of beer glasses but stars.

Oh, I think I have seen this before... It was the beer I had in Rome. It was a happy surprise!!

The organizer told me that they are going to have this again in October.  Welcome again!

Russia in Vienna

Today is May 9th. My neighborhood was filled with lots of Russian.
Hard to believe that here is Vienna.
Every people has a familiar ribbon in orange and brown stripe. In Russia, today is War Victory Day. It was exactly the scene I saw in St.Petersburg in 2008. Rows of police cars and police officers are standing around the Schwarzbergplatz. Maybe because of Ukrain issue, they are nervous about the Russian event held in Vienna.

People those who does not know the history during the War may wonder why Russian monument in the middle of Vienna. Austria was occupied by Allied nations, and Vienna was splitted and ruled by England, America, France and Russia. The Schwarzbergplatz, 4th district where I am now living was under Russian territory. I heard that this is why the schools in the district students would learn Russian as the second foreign language. Actually there are lots of Russian living in the district.

The Day of Liberation

"May 8th is a very important day in Europe. It is the memorial day that they won the war against Totalitarianism and were free from that 69 years ago.... "

That was the speech by the Federal Chancellor of Austria, Werner Faymann on the stage.

In front of Hofburg king's palace, a dome stage was built and lots of people were there to celebrate/enjoy the festival. For the festival, the Vienna Symphony Orchestra was ready to play Beethoven's Symphony No.5. Needless to say, this concert was free.

I bought a piece of pretzel and beer, was standing among people and linstened to speeches of vice mayer Maria Vassilakou, the representative of concentration camp in Mauthausen, federal chancellor Werner Faymann and so on.

Having listened so many times that they said "free from Totalitarism" and they won the democracy, I just wondered. After the war, Germany pushed all the guilt to Nazi, although Hitler was elected by German ciitzens in democratical way. Hitler came to Austria in 1938, but he was somehow welcomed. This is the historical fact. I have seen pictures that lot of people gathered at square of cities with the Nazi flag in their hand to listen to Hitler's speech. But Austria tried to wipe this history by declaration of Permanent Neutrality. Even now, some strees in Vienna have been originally named after famous people and it will be renamed when their contributed to Nazi party was discovered.

When I talk with European, they would take Japan as a member of the Axis with Germany and Italy. Most of people do not know what happened in Asia then and believe without doubt that Japan should have done something similar in Asia what Germany or Italy did. They do not know that Japanese government was against Nazi policy about racial discrimination and helped Judes  into Manchuria who had been escaping from Nazi's persecution in Europe ignoring Nazi's accusation not to give them over.

We have to know in advance what happened and how they European would think to communicate with them properly. Until now I told some Europeans that Japan was against Nazi policy. After the War, Hitler killed himself and Mussolini was executed. Showa Tenno traveled all through Japan to encourage citizens. This tells the difference of the relationship clearly; relationship between Tonno and Japanese citizens, and Ruler and European citizens.

Then the concert had started. Many people were standing near the stage, and more people were sitting on the lawn in the park very relaxed. It was a very cosy night.
